What to Do in a Dental Emergency
Here’s what to do in common emergency situations:
- Toothache: After that, spit out with warm water and then use the dental floss to remove any food particles caught in between. They should not use the aspirin directly on the tooth or gums.
- Chipped or Broken Teeth: Save any pieces. If the crown becomes dislodged, wash the mouth and the pieces of the crown with warm water. If bleeding, the area should be covered with piece of gauze.
- Knocked-Out Tooth: Grasp a tooth by the crown part and not by the root. If dirty, rinse the root, but do not scrub. If possible, reinsert the tooth into the socket. If not, put it in a cup of milk or a saltwater solution.
- Lost Filling or Crown: Keep the crown in a safe place. If possible slip the crown back over the tooth; use a dental cement, toothpaste or denture adhesive to ensure that the crown remains in place.
- Abscess or Infection: Rinse with a mild saltwater solution several times a day to alleviate pain and draw the pus to the surface.
