We offer two take-home whitening packages. Both use custom-made trays and Philips whitening gel.

What’s not included: If your examination finds issues that should be treated before whitening, such as decay or gum disease, that treatment is quoted separately and your whitening may need to wait until it’s done. Additional gel beyond the 6 applications is not included.

We welcome all health funds and offer flexible payment options, including instalment plans. Eligible patients may also access their superannuation to help with costs.

Teeth whitening is a cosmetic treatment that can lighten the natural colour of your teeth. At Affordable Dental, we offer take-home whitening that is prescribed and supervised by our dental team. Before you start, we check that whitening is suitable for you and explain what results you can realistically expect.

We no longer offer in-chair whitening. Take-home whitening lets you whiten gradually, at home, with trays made to fit your teeth.

Teeth whitening uses a peroxide-based gel to lighten stains and discolouration within the tooth, without removing any of the tooth surface. Staining can come from food, drinks, smoking or natural ageing.

How much your teeth lighten, and how long it lasts, varies from person to person. It depends on the type of staining, the natural colour of your teeth, and how closely you follow your instructions.

How Our Take-Home Whitening Works

1. Check your oral health. Whitening should only be done on healthy teeth and gums. If you’ve had a check-up within the last 6 months, we can go straight to making your trays. If not, choose our package that includes an examination and clean.

2. Make your custom trays. We create whitening trays shaped to your teeth. This helps keep the gel on your teeth and limits contact with your gums.

3. Whiten at home. You’ll take home your trays and whitening gel for 6 applications, along with instructions on how much gel to use and how long to wear the trays. Please follow these instructions closely. Using more gel or wearing the trays longer than directed won’t speed up results and may increase sensitivity or gum irritation.

Is Teeth Whitening Right For You?

Whitening isn’t suitable for everyone, which is why we assess you before treatment. It tends to work best on stains caused by food, drinks or tobacco. Discolouration from trauma, certain medications or developmental conditions may respond less or not at all. In those cases, we can discuss other options with you.

Whitening only affects natural teeth. Fillings, crowns and veneers won’t change colour, so they may look different from your whitened teeth and may need replacing to match. We’ll talk you through this before you start.

Whitening is generally not recommended if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have untreated decay or gum disease, or have very sensitive teeth. Our team will advise you based on your situation.

No. We currently offer professional take-home whitening only.

Do I need a check-up before whitening?

Yes. If you’ve had a check-up within the last 6 months, you can choose our $399 package. If not, our $549 package includes an examination and clean.

Is teeth whitening safe?

When used as directed under the supervision of a dental practitioner, take-home whitening is considered a low-risk treatment. Side effects like sensitivity and gum irritation can occur and are usually temporary. We’ll assess whether it’s suitable for you first.

Will whitening damage my enamel?

Research suggests professional whitening products used as directed don’t cause significant harm to enamel. Overuse, or using higher-strength products without supervision, increases the risk of side effects. That’s why it’s important to follow your dental team’s instructions.

How long will my results last?

It varies. Diet, smoking, oral hygiene and the type of staining all affect how long results last. Whitening is not permanent.

Can I whiten my teeth if I have fillings or crowns?

Whitening only affects natural teeth. Fillings, crowns and veneers won’t change colour, so we’ll discuss this with you during your assessment.

Will I experience sensitivity?

Some people experience temporary sensitivity. We’ll advise you on how to manage it, and you can contact us if it doesn’t settle.
